Roman River Music is committed to supporting young musicians and provides opportunities to those displaying emerging talent through our Side by Side and Spotlight Performer projects. These projects aim to inspire young people already involved in music to improve their skill and give them wider horizons.
Side by Side is a unique opportunity for young musicians aged 14 – 25 to rehearse and perform exciting and challenging repertoire alongside some of the world-class musicians appearing at the festival. This is one of the most effective ways of inspiring fledgling musicians to take their skill further. The professional musicians will inspire and lift the standard of the young players and teach them how to practice for ensemble performance, leaving a long-term legacy. In 2021, this will involve 3 rehearsal / coaching sessions, one full rehearsal, and a performance at St. Botolph’s in Central Colchester.
Roman River Music is committed to uncovering and developing talent within Colchester and the surrounding Essex/Suffolk communities. Working with local schools and other partner organisations, not only do we create pathways for young people to experience the highest quality performances within easy reach of their homes, but we also enhance instrumental learning and prowess through providing exceptionally gifted young people with performance opportunities where they take centre stage. Through our Spotlight Performers project, we select up to 6 young people every year who will be given the opportunity to perform at the start of a Roman River Music concert, either within our festival or at satellite events throughout the year.
We are delighted to be supporting the Colchester Rotary Music Festival again this year and hope to welcome many of the finalists to engage with our side by side and Spotlight Performer projects.
